Through our extensive gifting research we’ve learned and shared about the importance of business gifting to build and maintain business relationships and lasting impressions. But in the time of the coronavirus pandemic, the role of business gifting has become even more vital as companies adapt to working remotely and creatively tackle the issue of staying connected with employees, partners, and clients. The innovative ways companies are using gifts to stay connected is an example of how gifting, a deeply entrenched and deeply human activity, is about the story the giver wants to tell.
Here are a few examples of how companies are using our gifting platform, including our online Private Event functionality, to tell their stories during the crisis:

Employee Gifts to Boost Morale & Maintain Engagement
With employees suddenly working from home, companies are finding that employee engagement and productivity requires keeping morale high. In lieu of in-person staff meetings, lunches, and happy hours, these companies are using gifts as a communications lifeline to employees as they navigate their new normal.
Private Event Experience for Microsoft
Microsoft Corporation wanted to boost morale by recognizing a team of 590 employees for their hard work during the coronavirus crisis. Knack used our online Private Event functionality to create a custom-branded landing page for this Microsoft team curated with six different luxury gifts. The appreciation gift selection included spa, gourmet food, family games, Seattle favorites, and entertainment options. Employees were able to “shop” the landing page, select the gift they wanted and have it delivered directly to their home. Each gift was wrapped in premium packaging with a custom gift message that read, “Thank you for your continued efforts during this unprecedented time. We recognize and appreciate your continued dedication, resilience, and hard work. Enjoy your gift. Thank you for your contributions!!!”
Mystery Gift Private Event Experience for a Silicon Valley-Based Multinational Computer Software Company
To lift the spirits of a team of 35 people, a Silicon Valley-based computer software company worked closely with Knack’s customer success manager to curate a morale-boosting online Private Event experience with 3 mystery gifts. Instead of revealing what was in each gift, employees were invited to choose a gift theme: Game Night, Spa Day, or Home Breakfast. The idea here was to add a little fun and anticipation to the gifting experience. Once employees chose a theme, their mystery gift was wrapped in premium packaging with a customized gift note and shipped directly to the employee. The customized gift message read: We wanted to send you a little something so you know we’re thinking about you during this nutty time. Really grateful for your persistent optimism and positive energy. Enjoy!”
Business Gifts To Provide Reassurance
With the abrupt changes to day-to-day business operations because of the pandemic, it’s not a wonder that employees, clients, and business partners might have a question or two about the status of your business. We’ve seen companies use gifts to open up communication lines and provide transparency for how they are handling operations during the crisis. Especially when paired with reassuring words, these gifts essentially say: while our business may look different these days, we’re still here for you and we’ll get through this together.
Double Private Event Gift Experience for Oxford Finance
Oxford Finance reached out to Knack because they wanted to provide their 60 employees reassurance as well as appreciation for hard work during the crisis. Instead of giving just one gift, the company opted to give their employees two each. They did this through two branded online Private Events. The gift selections included spa, gourmet food, family games, and entertainment options. Employees were able to “shop” the landing page of the Private Events, select the gift they wanted, and have it delivered directly to their home. Each gift was wrapped in premium packaging with a custom gift message that read, “May this gift provide some fun and comfort during this uncertain time.”
Thoughtful Gifts To Replace In-Person Events
Prior to the coronavirus outbreak, in-person celebrations, meetings, conventions and conferences were ideal for developing common experiences and meaningful bonds. Now that these physical meet-ups are no-gos, we’re finding that business gifts are doing the heavy lifting when it comes to establishing those critical personal connections and shared experiences.

Virtual Office Party Gift Experience for Tableau Software
Instead of an in-person happy hour, one team at Tableau Software opted to have a virtual happy hour event for 50 people with a special gifting twist. Each employee would be sent a gift and the team would open them simultaneously during the remote happy hour. The gifts were beautifully wrapped and had a custom gift message that read, “Thank you so much for all your hard work and empathy during all of the changes going on at work and in the world. We appreciate you and hope this gift gives you a little distraction and something fun to enjoy at home. **You have also been now been entered in to win a raffle prize! Daniel will draw a name and share the prizes now!
Virtual Board Meeting Happy Hour for a Seattle-Based Wealth Management Company
A Seattle-based wealth management company started doing virtual happy hours with their board members when social distancing directives were put in place. To kick off their first remote event, they sent their board members a luxe wine- and cheese-themed gift with wine truffles, cheese sticks, and other gourmet goodies. Their gift message read, “We look forward to sharing a glass of wine and a few laughs together on our first virtual board happy hour!”
