Chris Tanghe introduces Knack's wine gifts

We celebrated the launch of our wine gifts program last week in excellent company–and that’s not just the pinot talking. On Wednesday evening, our team packed up several dozen “mystery Knacks” for our guests, practiced our website demonstration skills, and made the short jaunt over to Marjorie Restaurant, where Knack merchant Donna Moodie and her team hosted a gorgeous, bohemian evening.

When we first decided to carry wine on KNACKSHOPS.COM, we turned to Tim Crowther at Vinum Importing to help us assemble a wine list of family-owned wineries from Washington and Oregon. He helped us finesse the collection with a selection that represents some of the most notable Pacific Northwest appellations (plus a French champagne house with a remarkable history). It’s an honor to feature these small wineries, and we hope you’ll get familiar with them (and their wines!) at your leisure.

We greeted our guests with glasses of Gramercy Cellars’ 2013 Columbia Valley Lagniappe Syrah and Bruno Paillard’s Premiere Cuvee Brut, and our founder Laura invited everyone to mingle with the Knack team to enjoy personal website demos, create their own gift, or select a “mystery Knack” gift box.

Master Sommelier Chris Tanghe spoke about eight of the wines featured in our program, highlighting special tasting notes and information about each vintage. In keeping with Knack’s storytelling spirit, he also shared a few amusing anecdotes about the vintners and wineries whose diverse stories make them a perfect fit for our merchant community.

The wine gift sets on display also gave us the opportunity to introduce some of the gorgeous accompaniments to our wine collection, particularly the handblown stemless glasses by local glassblower Greg Clark of DECICIO Artisan Glass Studios in Ballard and the handmade truffle collection by Forte Artisan Chocolates in Mt. Vernon, WA.

DECICIO’s handblown glasses made an impression on everyone, including guests Allison Herber and Duell Fisher.

The evening’s most pleasant surprise? That, even with our enticing display of mystery Knacks in all sizes, most of our guests elected to create their own gift set on the website. The enthusiasm with which they found gift ideas, asked questions, and created gift sets was just as exciting for us, and we look forward to our next Knack party!
